Hibernian Place and Westin Hotel

The redevelopment of Perth’s Hibernian Place was one of those rare opportunities to rewrite the future of a city landmark.

Defined by the historic Hibernian Hall and No 1 Fire Station, the site is in the city’s east end – an urban renewal pocket of heritage-listed buildings and arts venues.

The project included:

  • A new Westin Hotel with function spaces
  • The revival of Hibernian Hall
  • A 2,000sqm public plaza
  • A new dining and drinking destination

This mixed-use development needed to draw people in and seamlessly blend inside and out – amplifying the site’s social, economic and cultural value to the client and the city.

One of the creative ways we did that was by floating’ the hotel ballroom above Hibernian Hall, creating valuable event space and the right conditions for a new plaza below.

The welcoming central plaza – with its mature trees, manicured lawns, water features and stone furniture – is refined like its historic neighbours’ but still feels contemporary like the new development.

Together, the hotel, plaza and hall – now a chic restaurant that shows off the building’s great bones – is a prime spot for year-round events as well as everyday gatherings like afternoon coffee or dinner and drinks.
