Sokyo set to open in Brisbane CBD

Beloved Sydney Japanese restaurant Sokyo will join The Star Brisbane in its new Queens Wharf incarnation, reports Must-do Brisbane. Hassell designed the restaurant’s interiors, which Hassell Principal Carolyn Solley describes as ‘combining Japanese aesthetics with the resort’s sub-tropical surrounds’.

Di Stasio Città named as one of Melbourne’s beloved Italian restaurants

According to Concrete Playground, “it’s hard to talk about Di Stasio Città without mentioning its grand modernist design. It feels more like a contemporary gallery than a restaurant, with high concrete-clad walls, minimal furnishings, and white videos projected onto the walls. At the same time, Italian music from the 60s plays in the background. It’s a brilliant backdrop for the consumption of pasta.” View the project.

Just In: The 2023 Eat Drink Design Awards Shortlist Has Been Announced

The awards celebrate the best in Australasian hospitality design. While the throughline of the 2022 shortlist was comfort, judges say this year’s venues have demonstrated plenty of diversity, with no real dominating themes. “There was a massive range of projects, and it felt very much like we are on the cusp of change,” says judge Di Ritter, who is an associate at Hassell. “No one particular design direction stood out.” Read the article in Broadsheet.

Fat Noodle at The Star Brisbane

‘Missing piece’: Work starts on divisive $2b Harbourside redevelopment

Seven months after retailers moved out, and bulldozers rolled in, construction on Mirvac’s massive mixed-use complex comprising shops, offices, and a 42-storey apartment tower started on Thursday. “The new Harbourside will reimagine the Darling Harbour waterfront, reconnect the people and places of Pyrmont, and create a network of new public spaces to bring together community, visitors, residents and workers,” said Mirvac’s chief executive of development, Stuart Penklis, who hails the project project as the “critical missing piece” in the NSW government’s $15 billion overhaul of the harbour front west of the CBD. 7km of gold: The Sydney waterfront stretch set to generate billions

Once the scaffolding has been cleared and the new developments are opened, Sydney’s western waterfront is forecast to generate $6.2 billion for the local economy, the Business Improvement District says. The design by Oslo-based Snøhetta and Hassell Studio features a five-storey shopping centre with 87,000 square metres of gross floor area, 45,000 sq m of which will be commercial and retail space and 42,000 sq m of residential in a 166-metre-high tower with 350 apartments. Billion dollar boost for Sydney’s harbourfront

Findings made by not-for-profit partnership Business Improvement District (BID) anticipates that once fully complete, Sydney’s revitalised seven-kilometre stretch of western waterfront will generate up to $6.2 billion for the harbour city economy. Lendlease, Hassell reveal transformative tower for Melbourne CBD

Lendlease has officially unveiled Town Hall Place, a mixed-use development in the heart of the Melbourne CBD designed by Hassell. Once complete, the ten-storey tower over the new underground Metro Tunnel Town Hall Station will feature 16,000sqm of A-grade commercial space linking into activated laneways, arcades, retail and hospitality offerings. Our design approach acknowledges the history and heritage of the immediate streetscape, while capitalising on the views of Federation Square, St Paul’s Cathedral, Flinders Street Station, the Arts Centre and the MCG.
