A vibrant new precinct: Sydney Harbourside hits key milestone

The $2bn revitalisation of Harbourside Darling Harbour has reached a key milestone with the approval of the DA (development application) for the main building podium and tower, which will become the centrepiece of a world-class retail, residential, commercial and entertainment precinct.

Our Managing Director Liz Westgarth says the Harbourside design — a collaboration between Hassell and Snohetta — will form a vibrant precinct consistent with the Pyrmont Peninsula Place Strategy.

The design of the precinct includes new open spaces for the public and a future-focused workplace campus set to respond to current and evolving demands for a range of commercial tenancies,” says Liz.

Hassell Principal and Landscape Architect Jason Cuffe says the landscape architectural design surrounding the main building podium and tower will feature native species to encourage biodiversity, including 6,000 sqm of living roof in addition to the 10,000 sqm of public domain.

Our concept is defined by a network of welcoming open spaces for public use featuring natural materials and vegetation. At its heart is Waterfont Garden — a space that will become Pyrmont’s new neighbourhood park and a vital community meeting place, just as it was for First Nations people living in and around the area for thousands of years,” says Jason.

A joint design collaboration with Snohetta, Hassell is looking forward to supporting the next stage of this landmark new precinct by Mirvac.
