Committee for Sydney and partners rethink station precincts

What does it take to create a liveable 30 minute city? 

In Sydney, there are great opportunities to establish diverse, affordable housing around the city’s emerging metro and rail station network. And it’s critical these hubs are walkable, support public and community life, and provide high levels of amenity and design quality, according to a new report on ​‘Rethinking Station Precincts’.

The Committee for Sydney developed the report in collaboration with Hassell and experts from AECOM, Frecklington Advisory, Grimshaw, Mecone and SGS Economics and Planning. It draws on land use, urban design and economic analysis around the Sydney Metro and Sydney Trains network as one of the city’s most important urban assets.

Growing to 338 stations when the current round of funded projects is complete, this extraordinary investment – built up over almost two centuries – could hold the key to Sydney’s future as a productive, liveable and sustainable city.

Contributors shared their key findings and recommendations at a symposium held in Hassell’s Sydney studio on 4 May. A full copy of the report can be found here.
