Liz Westgarth wins Business Woman of the Year
Congratulations to Liz Westgarth, Principal, Board Director and Head of Design based in our Sydney studio, for taking home the Business Woman of the Year Award at this year’s NSW National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Awards for Excellence.
Liz received the top honour for her contributions and achievements in the industry and in her role at Hassell through proactive leadership, her commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion in the industry and developing and embedding a renewed sustainability framework for the practice.
“I’m honoured to receive the award from NAWIC,” says Liz. “I’m passionate about increasing diversity and inclusion within Hassell and in the wider profession of architecture and design and about leading the charge regarding sustainability.
“Diversity means more varied perspectives, leading to better creative solutions that reflect our clients and the community – the people we design for. My hope is that our leadership in this area will contribute to systematic change across the industry.
“As a leading design practice, I recognise the unique placement of Hassell to inspire, educate and demonstrate leadership in sustainable design for the benefit of our communities and planet. The profession has a critical role in urgently tackling climate change, and large design practices with market influence play an important part in leading the way.”
A role model, supporter and mentor of younger staff, Liz also plays an active role within Hassell’s staff development leadership groups, alongside her industry role as a member of the Property Council of Australia NSW Commercial Committee.
Congratulations, Liz, from everyone at Hassell.
