Brighton Business School

The regeneration of the University of Brighton’s business school is designed to help consolidate its position as one of the UK’s top five based on research impact.

A bold new gateway to the university, the Brighton Business School is a beacon for enterprise and innovation in the region – welcoming local industry onto the campus to offer students real-world business experience.

We worked with the university to design a business school that breaks with tradition, creating a teaching and learning experience with a constantly changing sequence of activities and events that shift with the people who use it. By breaking down the boundaries between academia, research, business and industry, the building promotes project-based learning, opportunities for research collaboration, exciting new enterprise initiatives and genuine career development.

Importantly, the design of the building’s general purpose teaching spaces and student services opens up the business school to other departments and faculties, extending its identity and influence right across the campus.

A revitalised ground level connects the business school with the neighbouring campus buildings like the Advanced Engineering Centre, the 800-bed Mithras Student Village, a new pedestrian bridge, the student union, shops, cafes and bars as well as new health and fitness facilities.

Inspired by the iconic Brighton Pier and the flocks of birds it attracts, the façade’s 50,000 bespoke ceramic tiles represent the process of flux that students experience during university life.
