Perth Design Week: an urgent discussion on making more homes

Big cities everywhere are facing housing shortages, and Australia is no exception.

As part of the 2024 Perth Design Week, Hassell is hosting a round table discussion where we will delve into how we can create more diverse, accessible and affordable inner-city housing for Western Australians.

Join passionate advocates from government, property, design and the community housing sector to engage in this crucial discussion.

Our key speakers are:

KELLIE MCGIVERN, DESIGN MANAGER, HESPERIA

With over 15 years’ experience in leading design firms across Australia and Europe, Kellie specialises in strategic planning and project definition, with a keen interest in innovative design typologies that foster socially responsive environments. She serves on the State Design Review Panel (SDRP), is a Residential Committee Member for Property Council Australia, and was a former Co-Chair of AIA National Gender Equity Committee.

PETER LEE OAM, FOUNDATION HOUSING BOARD MEMBER, PRINCIPAL AT HASSELL

In 2022, Peter was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his contributions to community housing and architecture. He has been instrumental in not-for-profit social housing groups, including City Housing and Foundation Housing, championing disadvantaged communities. Peter has a strong belief that without secure housing and an address, people in difficult circumstances find it almost impossible to turn their lives around.

DAVID MCLOUGHLIN, DESIGN MANAGER, DEVELOPMENT WA

David was previously Principal Architect at the Department of Communities. He has been involved in a wide range of residential projects, from production housing to bespoke medium-density and high-rise developments. In addition to design, his role has encompassed internal design reviews of complex and high-risk housing projects and client-side design management of major housing and development projects.

Every Australian deserves an address and the chance to live in a community where the daily commute is not excessive.”

— Peter Lee OAM
