With inherent client knowledge, the design brief was able to surpass the everyday and focus on an aspirational outcome of connectedness, rather than pure floorplate efficiency. This focus was able to challenge the traditional legal workplace planning model and move beyond a perimeter office setup to increase connectedness

The project was delivered through a collaborative procurement model by a team of architects, engineers, community relations professionals and contractors who worked together with the client in one location for more than 12 months

The building's facade features a series of dark screens and balconies with perforated aluminium panels that spill leaf-shaped sunlight into the apartments. Dark hallways create a sense of luxury and calm – an entrance that helps accentuate the light and bright apartments inside.

Hub is the new reality of work – the manifestation of a dynamic, mobile, networked and independent knowledge-based workforce. Hub Melbourne is a test case for a wider network of locations that will be ready to support the inevitable expansion of co-working spaces across Australian cities and corporate organisations

While recalling the heritage of the site, the design retains and rehabilitates large portions of valued bushland and provides extensive high quality parkland amenity

The concept for the tower evolved from the historical pole housing structures or 'diaojiao', perched over terraced landscapes

Timber, plywood and cork have been used to create a raw and natural environment. A timber screen gives privacy to a lounge area and casual meeting spaces are scattered throughout the workplace. Light Shed offers visitors a secret place from which to view the world and appreciate the hidden detail of Melbourne's Federation Square

The design solution emphasises the sense of the courtyard as the university's heart, providing a flexible space for events and clear and safe access. Areas of turf have been constructed within clearings giving students grassy areas for relaxation

Energy efficiency and minimisation, recycled and recyclable materials, product stewardship and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions were all considerations in the design and choice of materials and finishes. Magenta Shores successfully weaves a resort development into its local environment through sensitive design and planting, as well as protecting the integrity and beauty of its natural surroundings

The concept for these new islands is based upon the interpretation of the existing natural and urban context, as well as the conservation of local resources

The Eastern Plaza project is centered on the creation of a new public plaza as a major arrival space for Melbourne Park, in addition to providing new entrance facilities to Hisense Arena, a new footbridge to AAMI Park Stadium and integration of an existing footbridge to the MCG

The new city will be developed as an 'eco city', utilising both contemporary technology and traditional Chinese methods of soil and water conservation to minimise environmental impact

Built in the 1970s, the pedestrian mall was the first of its kind in Australia and represented an innovative approach in its creation of a car-free civic space. The redesign continues this legacy of innovation through the installation of a vibrant and robust civic space

Our design strategy for this new 25 metre indoor pool was to propose a new 'walled' terrace above the original pool enclosure, echoing its form but not mimicking its character

The North West Rail Link is Sydney's largest transport infrastructure project since work commenced on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The 23 kilometre rail link will cater for future growth in the booming North West region – more than 200,000 people will move into this growth centre over the next 40 years

ONLEAD's modular furniture is practical, dynamic and flexible with a high-quality design that responds to the user's needs. In response, the architecture uses simple forms to create multi-functional spaces that cater to a variety of needs

Through intensive staff consultation the design meets the goals of the Optus people, reflects the image that the organisation has sought to project to customers, and addresses the opportunity of creating a single Optus community

Designed with a simple aesthetic in mind and leveraging off the neighbouring original Outpost cafe, the restaurant offers authentic, home-style dishes as a communal dining experience

The key element of the design is water and it has been melded with light and reflections for the project concept. When viewed from afar, the five buildings housing six different restaurants appear to float on the lake, which is the unique feature of the project by Palm Springs Real Estate Development

The new station at William Street is a vital interchange with links to the existing Perth Station and the city centre. Esplanade Station services the Swan River foreshore and the adjacent Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre with a delicate pavilion

Designed as a family beach house, the materials are defined by the local context and surrounding landscape. Ironbark will grey-off to suggest indigenous Moonah trees, while limestone references the nearby heritage-listed lime kiln.

HASSELL began the Port Coogee project in 2006. Partially complete, it now features beaches, marinas, a waterfront park, play areas and natural amphitheatre, as well as residential infrastructure

By re-embracing the rivers, the people are able to enjoy the landscape in ways not available to them currently. Careful planning has made the most of the unique location to ensure direct river or harbour views for the majority of apartments. The interplay of three distinctive building forms creates strong composition to complement the landmark address at the gateway to the Fremantle Harbour

The Rock is a 60-storey commercial tower in Chongqing. Its form is generated as the logical, contextual response to the topographical features that surround the city. The structure is intended to be both natural and embedded in its surroundings, at the same time being a distinctive and recognisable sculptural form

The law court is expected to uphold the law, to demonstrate independence and to reflect the sovereignty of the people. The public need to feel welcome rather than intimidated. Accountability and transparency were key characteristics as was accessibility within the design

The design expresses a spatial simplicity, in which rooms are interconnected and their functions amplified

CERN deserved to have a world first in public realm, and this was the inspiration for the design of Route de Meyrin – the streets and central square that bind and tie together the existing campus and its disparate collection of buildings and elements

Supplementing the owners' country property, the apartment reflects the couple's commitment to a rigorous design aesthetic of strong architectural heritage. The kitchen and lounge reinforce the desire that this city pad be as much a home as it is a showpiece

As the designer for the new fitout, HASSELL translated the guidelines of Standard Chartered Bank's Global Design Standards into a physical work environment that is fresh, energetic and contemporary, at the same time maintaining a link with the long history of the organisation

The design for the new State Rehabilitation Service (SRS) in Perth, Western Australia, is the outcome of extensive consultation with the people who will use it – rehabilitation staff, volunteers and, of course, patients. The result will be a building designed around the needs of patients and their carers with strong links to the landscape around it

The Summer Hill Flour Mills master plan presents a rare opportunity to retain and reuse much of the existing industrial fabric of the precinct. The landscaping will introduce open spaces with pedestrian links through the site to access a light rail transport service, currently under construction

The challenge of the project was to cost effectively deliver a range of complimentary recreation experiences that would appeal to all sectors of the community as well as providing a ceremonial setting suitable for the important task of handing back Hong Kong to China

Our proposal was for a very clear and memorable scheme that unifies two sites and various building functions under a single canopy. The canopy form ensures a strong, singular image that is legible from the air, surrounding highways and from a human perspective at street level

Trainshed Way is an urban renewal project that has reinvigorated the Geelong Railway Station precinct by introducing a new street which reorients the station precinct towards the heritage building facade, framing it as the central focal point. This forms a strategic visual and physical connection between the station and the Geelong foreshore

The two proposed office buildings house local utilities and government departments, all with a public aspect allowing for the activation of street frontages. The building mass forms strong urban edges and addresses the corners that are on prominent roads leading to the city centre

HASSELL completed the detailed design and coordinated construction for all urban and landscape elements, which scored an average of nine out of ten on KPI assessment criteria

A key feature of the kiosk is the 'woven' timber facade, the dappled intricacy of which aims to soften the utilitarian nature of this type of building. The zigzag-cut battens were carefully designed to enable adjacent battens to be cut from one piece of timber – maximising the benefit of this fine material and minimising waste

The recreation and open space network provide high-quality, well-integrated and multi-functional landscaped areas of open space, accommodating a range of recreational and leisure facilities that meet the needs of the local community and also provide for attractive visitor nodes

Extensive consultation occurred between HASSELL, the University, workplace environment strategists and key stakeholders with approximately 30 workshops held over eight weeks.
